We are Christine and Keith, the inspiration behind this new Virtual (Internet based) Shop, and also Regency News, our shop in Teignmouth. The full site is under construction at the moment and will be built in various stages. At the moment, it is a statement of who we are and what we stand for in our business life, and it tells you about our stunning shop built in 1750 which nestles between Regent Street and Regents Gardens in the old town part of Teignmouth.

Regency News is known locally as the “Tardis”, as we are much larger than we look from the outside. We are a salmon that thinks it is a dolphin!! Every corner, and we mean EVERY corner, is packed with the “Best of Devon”, refreshments and gifts, as well as all the things that you would expect to find in a traditional newsagent, tobacconist, confectionery “Corner Shop”.

We were both born in West London but have adopted Devon as our spiritual home. Leaving behind careers as a Factory Manager and a Financial Controller respectively (as well as the pollution of the M25 motorway!!), we wandered west to Buckinghamshire, then Somerset until we fell in love with Devon and Teignmouth in particular. We call it the beach, as its inhabitants were either born here or have been washed up here from all walks of life. We are all here because we love the Town with two beaches, the Sea Beach on the beautiful Lyme Bay and the Back Beach on the picturesque River Teign. Teignmouth is a town that is confident in itself, realizing that there is a need to embrace the modern world, but not to be swallowed up by it. It is a place at peace with itself. It is known as the “Gem of South Devon” with good reason. It is also a beautiful Ancient Port Town and still has a busy working Port today, thanks to having one of the deepest estuaries in the country, very narrow, but very deep. Teignmouth is a town that was founded on salt, a preservative, and we hope that such roots will preserve the way of life here forever.
